What is Angeles de Medellín?
The Angeles de Medellín Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Medellín, Colombia. We serve as a safe haven for children and families affected by Colombia’s 60+ year civil war. Through education, kindness, and opportunity, we aim to build a brighter, more hopeful future — because E = O: Education equals Opportunity.

History
The Angeles de Medellín Foundation began in 2007 with a mission to support families affected by Colombia’s long civil conflict. What started as English and computer classes has grown into a thriving foundation reaching communities across Medellín and remote areas of Antioquia.

Timeline

Jan ‘06

Marcos meets two American missionaries on a plane. They invite him to visit a conflict zone in the mountains of Medellín. Despite the danger, he agrees: “VAMOS.”

Oct ‘06

The missionaries leave Colombia, but Marcos continues visiting the area to support families in need.

Jan ‘07

A group of local children invites Marcos to teach English at their school — the first seeds of the foundation are planted.

2008

Word spreads about Marcos’ work. More people start to help. Volunteers begin to join from abroad.

2011

The first official Foundation location opens outside the school in Leon XIII. Expansion to other mountain communities begins.

2012– Present

The Foundation grows its reach to remote villages across Antioquia. Volunteers from 112 countries and 45 U.S. states have supported the mission.
